About Me
Opiyo Nixon was born in Nyanza, a western province of Kenya bordering the great Lake Victoria. Upon completing secondary school, Opiyo pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree (Sociology) at Kenyatta University in Kenya. While at Kenyatta University, he helped to revamp the Kenyatta University Students’ Journalism Club, where he served as Secretary-General for the entire period of his studies.
Upon completing his bachelor’s degree, he worked for World Vision International (Kenya) and later worked as Project Officer for Save the Children Federation (South Sudan).
Opiyo was awarded a scholarship under the Netherlands Fellowship Programme to pursue the Erasmus Mundus Joint European Master in International Humanitarian Action at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (The Netherlands). He specialized in the field of Conflicts, Disaster and Peace-building at Uppsala Univerisitet (Sweden). He later took his internship with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (New York).
Opiyo currently works as a Humanitarian Affairs Officer for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Afghanistan).
